Jiu-Jitsu Tournament FAQ

It is the responsibility of each competitor to understand and adhere to these guidelines. Failure to comply may result in immediate disqualification from the tournament to uphold the safety, fairness, and integrity of the competition.

Attire and Equipment

  1. Gi Condition: Your Gi must be free from tears and in excellent condition. Check it before the tournament for compliance.
  2. Proper Gi Fitting: Gis must fit properly. Undersized Gis are not allowed. Confirm your Gi fits correctly.
  3. NoGi Attire Requirement: Only rashguards are permitted in NoGi matches. T-shirts or other types of shirts are not allowed.
  4. NoGi Shorts Policy: Shorts in NoGi must be without pockets to prevent injury risks.
  5. Knee Pad Use: Knee pads are allowed, provided they are properly fitted and contains no hard material.
  6. Foot Brace Policy: Foot braces can be used as long as they are not rigid or contain metal loops.
  7. No Athletic Cups: The use of athletic cups is not permitted during matches.
  8. No Rashguards Under Gi: Rashguards under Gis are not allowed.

Conduct and Safety

  1. Prohibition of Smashing: Smashing your opponent onto the ground is strictly prohibited for safety.
  2. White Belt Guard Jumping Rule: White belts are not allowed to jump guard to protect against injuries.
  3. Respect and Civility: Show respect to referees and event staff. Aggressive behaviour will not tolerated.
  4. Sportsmanship: It is imperative to show respect towards your opponents and their coaches. Unsporting behaviour, including disrespectful conduct or attitudes, is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. This rule is enforced to maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere throughout the tournament.

Personal Responsibility

  1. Timeliness: Arrive well in advance, as the schedule may change. Be ready at least an hour before your fight.
  2. Personal Hygiene: Maintain good hygiene, including washing Gis and rashguards, and trimming nails.
  3. Knowing the Rules and Legal Submissions: Understand the rules and legal submissions of your division. Referees are not required to warn you about illegal maneuvers.
  4. Competing in Multiple Divisions: If you are participating in more than one division, the discretion for allowing rest time between your matches rests with the referee. Please note that the referee cannot delay the progress of a division for an unreasonable amount of time to accommodate a single athlete. It's important to manage your divisions and matches efficiently, understanding that the smooth flow of the tournament takes priority.
